What is the difference between Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger’s Syndrome?

The quick answer to this is simple: according to the latest Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5) published in 2013, Asperger’s Syndrome no longer exists.  It’s just an old diagnosis. People they used to diagnosis with Asperger’s Syndrome would now just be diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Not everyone agrees with the way the DSM 5 has created this huge, very inclusive diagnostic category called “Autism Spectrum Disorder.” Some people still like to think of Asperger’s as different from ASD. It’s controversial.
